John R. Vreeland, Counsel in the firm's Newark, New Jersey office, is a member of the Education Law and Labor Law Practice Groups.
Mr. Vreeland practices traditional labor law on behalf of the firm's private sector clients with extensive experience before the National Labor Relations Board, state and federal courts, labor arbitrators and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
He regularly represents management in collective bargaining in a variety of industries. Mr. Vreeland advises clients involved in labor disputes and assists employers facing union organizing campaigns, including the development of strategies and communications for remaining union-free and unfair labor practice avoidance. He also advises clients on their obligations under state and federal labor laws when embarking on major business changes, such as layoffs, facility closures, acquistions, sales and mergers.
Mr. Vreeland also counsels clients on compliance with state and federal employment laws, including the FLMA, FLSA, ADA, ADEA and WARN.
Mr. Vreeland has also practiced in the area of education law. He has served as both general counsel and special labor counsel to local boards of education throughout the state of New Jersey. As general counsel, John has provided guidance in education matters, school construction, contract disputes and public bidding. As special labor counsel, John has represented school board clients in contract negotiations, labor arbitration and administrative hearings.
Mr. Vreeland received his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from New York Law School in 1997, and his bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Rutgers University in 1994. After law school, Mr. Vreeland served as Law Clerk to the Honorable George W. Parsons, Jr., Superior Court of New Jersey.
